Car Buying Secrets What Salesmen Don't Want You To Know in Just Under 50 Pages Thomas Van eBook Reviews
Very superficial with quite a few typos. There was practically no information that isn't included in most auto pricing websites. Not worth reading. You will learn more looking at Edmunds, KBB and other sites.
I am in the market for a car now for the first time in years, so I picked up this book to get some tips on how to avoid getting taken advantage of. The author has a lot of great insights and I will use many of his ideas!
The only critique is that this book needs some editing. There are lots of grammatical and spelling errors. But if you can ignore that, you'll find it's a very useful book.
I would have titled this book the Car Buyer's Survival Manual; because it's a must read before braving a car dealership's lot. If you're like me and not excited to walk onto some salesperson's turf, this book is a great survival guide.
Tom starts off by dispelling 5 myths about MSRP, vehicle value, expectations, trade-ins and what to tell and what not to tell your dealer. He goes on to talk about how dealerships work, how to control your emotions, general economic concerns and personally financial concerns when buying or trading in a vehicle. He also discusses how incentives really work, what to expect during the final closing and how to quickly scan a dealership's lot without actually stopping your car.
I generally avoid car dealerships like the plague, but this guide helped me face those fears. It will help you save a lot of money, and considering the book is free or online $1 to get a version, you'd be missing a huge opportunity not to take a look at it.
I'd say two key points are
Understand the financing. The example of a 4 yr loan at 3% compared to 6 yrs at 16% is truly staggering. Do this example yourself with a financial calculator or Excel.
The rebates should apply AFTER you negotiate the price up from dealer invoice.
